Are you sick of all the Star Wars stuff yet? Good, here’s another trailer!
Here’s a Chinese one that’s even more spoiler-ish!
George Lucas has publicly voiced his approval for the film, but was still kind of a dick about it. Director J.J. Abrams has promised none of that goofy mid or post credit stuff that all of the Marvel movies have been doing. There will, however, be a new Star Trek trailer for those who see The Force Awakens on opening week. We also have confirmation that the new Star Wars movies will feature no Toshiro Mifune (good to know).
As a part of their ongoing quest to have a piece of everything, ever…Netflix is releasing a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The original was a huge success in America, and essentially introduced wuxia films to an entire generation, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Here’s a new trailer for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, done ’80s style.
J Cole, one of hip hop’s most promising young artists, has an HBO special coming out this January. It features cameos from Drake and Jay Z (who’s own HBO special kind of bombed). Cole’s album, 2014 Forrest Hills Drive, is one of the genre’s stronger albums. Cole has a unique and authentic voice that is a welcome change from the stale bravado that seems to dominate hip hop music.
Behind the Scenes
You may have heard by now that Creed features an impressive one-shot fight scene. Here is an interview with director Ryan Coogler discussing said scene.
Speaking of behind-the-scenes stuff, here is a video looking at the upcoming Charlie Kaufman movie Anomalisa.
Cutting the Cable?
It looks like Amazon is taking a huge step towards bringing a la carte cable content to viewers by allowing them to order channels like Showtime and Starz directly from them. This is a step in the right direction, but we’re not quite at a place where we can just pay $5 a month for just the Food Network. Maybe someday.
This Week in Douchebaggery
So remember how Tyson Fury just dethroned world’s undisputed and long-reigning heavyweight king? It turns out he’s already been stripped of one of his titles due to some weird IBF related political boxing bullshit. In bigger news, however, he has also been reported to the British police for hate speech and is currently under investigation. Being from the United States, I was not aware that being investigated by the authorities for being a bigot was a thing (it shouldn’t be). Fury recently made comments comparing homosexuals to pedophiles (vile remarks, but it’s not like he’s the first professional athlete to say this kind of stuff). He has also been accused of sexism after stating that a women’s place in either in the kitchen or on her back (just a missionary man apparently). To round it all out, Tyson Fury has been mocking UFC star Conor McGregor, insisting that McGregor stole his whole routine.
